DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM

The B.A (H) Journalism course aims at foregrounding the role of journalism in a democracy. It helps the students to refine their linguistic and communicative skills while providing an insight into the socio-economic and political dimensions of living in a globalized world.
A host of interesting and practical subjects like the history of journalism and printing, social psyche and mass culture, news making, advertising and public relations are covered in the course to give the student a firm foundation for a competitive industry. Understanding the importance of practical experiences required in this field, this course has been designed to give maximum exposure to the students and thereby familiarize them with the on-ground skills and abilities required. Another crucial aspect of journalism relies on the community interaction and therefore the department regularly organizes Community Development Programs. Our students visit rural communities and try to understand their problems, opinions and the requisite needs of the societies. Department organizes talks, lectures and symposiums on various issues, which exposes students to the words of eminent achievers in the media industry. Apart from inviting media professional to the college, the students of the college are taken to various media houses to help them in becoming acquainted with the industry, its functioning and requirements.
While the course focuses on journalism and news media, it is no way limited to it. The course provides ample skills to students for varied fields like radio, advertising and public relations, photography, filmmaking, etc. And even in these fields, the course enables the student to choose their interests, be it on-screen or off-screen professions by imparting an ample skill set for both.

Event management is an important aspect of this industry and therefore the Department organizes the annual Journalism Festival ‘Yatharth’. The fest is largely organized by the students with the faculty as their guiding light. Department also regularly publishes its much-acclaimed newsletter, ‘MAC VOICE’. The entire process of editing and designing is carried out solely by the students, so that they understand the concepts of Journalism from news gathering to circulation while honing their skills for the news media industry.
The course’s wide-ranging focus and industrial relevance is characterized by our alumni who have made a name for themselves across various fields. Our alumni are working across the globe with famed news organisations like Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Al Jazeera, BBC, etc. While Doordarshan, India TV, Zee Media, CNN-News18 Group, NDTV, Republic Media, TV Today Network, etc. are some Indian media organisations where our alumni are proving their mettle. Apart from broadcast media, MACites have a significant presence in print media too. Pioneer, The Telegraph, The Indian Express and Financial Express, The Hindu and Businessline, The Times of India, Hindustan Times and Hindustan, etc. to name a few.
In addition to this, owing to our focus on other forms of media has helped our students to be part of radio stations like Red FM, BBC World Radio, Big FM, Ishq FM, etc. In the world of films, our students have produced award winning and internationally acclaimed films like Tremors and A Hairy Tale. While also being part of organisations like The Viral Fever, The Screen Patti, The Timeliners, etc. Furthermore, our alumni also have founded organisations like Youth Ki Awaz and The Logical Indian among others while proving themselves to be true entrepreneurs. /br> Leading advertising agencies like DDB Mudra Group, Mullen Lowe Lintas Group, McCann Erickson India, FCB Ulka Advertising, Schbang Digital Solutions, etc. are also home to many of our alumni. The department regularly organizes interactions of the students with the alumni so that the students understand the fine details of the industries from their seniors.
The department has a state-of-the-art Media Lab for providing practical exposure to the students to make their career in Modern Media Industry with the help of latest technological equipment in all media streams
