Report 2020-2021


Maharaja Agrasen College, University of Delhi has a ZERO tolerance policy against sexual harassment. The Maharaja Agrasen College Internal Complaints Committee was constituted in 2015 according to norms specified in the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The committee comprising of Dr Maneesha as Presiding Officer, Dr Shashi Singh, Dr Praveen Kant Pandey from teaching faculty; Mr Rajinder Bisht and Ms Surabhi from administrative staff and student representatives with Ms Manisha Aggarwal as external member followed due protocol in redressal of complaints and worked proactively towards increasing gender sensitization by organising lectures by Judicial officers and other experts to disseminate the finer nuances of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

The ICC conducted a safety audit to make College Campus safe and secure for students. Feedback was sought from students based on their experience when they attended classes in the college campus in the year 2019-20. The feedback was analysed and a report based on the responses was submitted to the authorities.

A 10 days online Add on Course on 'Legal Awareness' was organized for students by Delhi State Legal Authority in association with Maharaja Agrasen College to spread Legal Literacy amongst the younger generation, to spread awareness about important Laws/Statute enacted in India and also to spread aware about DLSA. The course was organized by the Internal Complaints Committee under the aegis of MAC-IQAC from 18 October 2020 to 10 November 2021. The course addressed important issues such as “Equal Access to Justice”- Social Justice and Constitution of India, Understanding Indian Criminal Justice System, Overview of Cyber Laws, Equality in Practice - Laws in force for Protection of Women, Functioning of Police Administration & Virtual Tour of Police Station, Contractual Liabilities & Rent Laws: Jurisprudence and Applications, ‘Rights of Children’ & ‘Wrongs by Children’ – Important legal Provisions, Work with Dignity-Insights of The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 201, A Discussion on Purpose & Provisions of Right to Information Act, “Equal Access to Justice”- Role n Duties of DSLSA, Virtual Tour of DSLSA/DLSA Virtual Tour of District Court. An online test was conducted at the end of the course. A total of 134 students benefitted from the add on course. Internal Complaints Committee under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell and East District Legal Services Authority organized an online awareness programme on the topic “Sexual Harassment at Workplace” on 10 February 2021. Ms Sonal Chauhan, Legal Aid Counsel, from East District Legal Services Authority explained in detail about various laws pertaining to Sexual harassment at workplace to the audience which comprised of students, teaching faculty and non-teaching staff. Furthermore, ‘Yodha’, an online self-defence training program was organised for women on 27 July 2021.


Report 2018-2019

The committee comprising of Dr Maneesha as Presiding Officer, Dr Shashi Singh, Dr Praveen Kant Pandey from teaching faculty; Mr Rajinder Bisht and Ms Surabhi from administrative staff and Rohini S Kumar, Souparni Paul and Ramendra Yadav from students with Ms Manisha Aggarwal as external member followed due protocol in redressal of complaints and worked proactively towards increasing gender sensitization by organising lectures by Judicial officers and other experts to disseminate the finer nuances of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The committee also sought periodic feedback from students and is committed to ensuring a safe environment for girls within the college. An interaction program with Deputy Commissioner of Police with students was organized by in July 2018 in college auditorium. During the program, all the students were briefed about internal complaints committee and its functioning. The committee organized an awareness cum sensitization Program on "Sexual harrassment at workplace and services provided by DLSA' on 20 August 2018 in college auditorium during which Mr Pawan Kumar, Ld. Secretary, DLSA East, Karkardooma Court, Delhi conducted an interactive session with students and faculty. In the academic year 2018-19, the committee organised classes on 'Techniques of self-defence' for girl students of college in collaboration with the Special Unit for Women and Children, Delhi Police and Delhi State Legal Services Authority during October 2018. On successful completion of the workshop, the participants were awarded certificates of participation by Delhi Police.

The committee comprising of Dr Gitanjali Chawla as Presiding Officer, Ms Puneeta Agarwal, Dr T.N Ojha and Ms Manju Sharma as members with Prof Aparna Basu as external member followed due protocol in redressal of complaints and worked proactively towards increasing gender sensitization by organising lectures by Lawyers and other experts to disseminate the finer nuances of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. It also sought periodic feedback from students and is committed to ensuring a safe environment for girls within the college. In the academic year 2017-18, the committee organised a 10-day self-defence workshop for girls in collaboration with the Special Unit for Women and Children, Delhi Police. The workshop commenced on September 13, 2017 and witnessed enthusiastic participation by more than 130 students. On successful completion of the workshop, the participants were awarded certificates of participation by the Principal, Dr Sunil Sondhi.

Subsequently, 32 girl students visited the Ashok Nagar Police Station on September 28, 2017 with Ms Puneeta Agarwal and Dr Gitanjali Chawla for an interaction with the SHO, Mr Meena, who spent a lot of time with the students. Not only did he give an extensive tour of the Police Station but also familiarised the students with various procedures. Students learnt a lot from their visit and were very appreciative of the knowledge they gained.


Report 2016-2017

The committee follows due protocol in redressal of complaints and works proactively towards increasing gender sensitization by organising lectures by Lawyers and other experts to disseminate the finer nuances of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. It also seeks periodic feedback from students and is committed to ensuring a safe environment for girls within the college.

The Internal Complaints Committee 2016-17 comprising of Dr Gitanjali Chawla, Ms Puneeta Aggarwal, Dr T.N. Ojha, Ms Manju Sharma and Prof Aparna Basu (special invitee) worked proactively towards increasing gender sensitization and ensuring the dissemination of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The committee followed due protocol in resolving complaints received during the academic session 2016-17. The committee conducted a 10 day self-defence workshop for girls in collaboration with the Special Unit for Women and Children, Delhi Police from 1st to 15th February. The workshop was attended with enthusiasm by 120 students who displayed self-defence tactics to the entire college in the final session on 15th February, 2017. Prof Virdi, Honourable Chairman, Governing Body and Dr Sunil Sondhi, Principal applauded their efforts and encouraged all girl students to participate in such ventures. Best participant awards were given to Sara Shahwar, B.A.(H) English IInd year, Pooja Kumai, B.A (H) Hindi IInd Year and Swati Chaudhary, B.A (H) Journalism along with cash prizes. Certificates of participation were given to participants who had more than sixty percent attendance at the workshop. The committee is committed to ensuring a safe environment for girls within the college.
