The B.A. (Honours) Business Economics course aims to enable students to develop analytical skills, enhance creative thinking and equip them with sound theoretical knowledge to pursue higher studies in Economics, Management and Business Administration. The core papers impart the knowledge and skill-set that enables analysis for sound decision-making in all aspects of the business. Here, the theory of economics, the methods of mathematics, statistics, and econometrics equip students to handle data and generate meaningful insights.
Knowledge of the rules and norms of business and its environment comes from courses on marketing, organizational behaviour, financial markets, industrial economics, and legal aspects. Elective courses permit an in-depth knowledge of a single field or a general and broader idea about several fields, enabling a student to decide their specialization later on. These cover the themes of finance, marketing, economics, taxation, quantitative techniques, etc. Keeping abreast with the times, new papers in Data Science, Statistics through R, and Data Visualization have also been added to strengthen the curriculum. The course structure is future-ready and flexible to incorporate the dynamic changes in the global economic environment. After successful completion of the program, students shall be able to garner the cognitive and content skills to enable them to perform optimally in the business environment.
The carefully designed syllabus aims at giving wider coverage to its course contents, enabling easier assimilation of the same by the students. The department adopts various pedagogical approaches apart from the regular lectures, tutorials, project work, and presentations. The department organizes industrial seminars and workshops regularly. It encourages students to take up internships in industry and research establishments etc., with the aim of developing their problemsolving, communication, and higher-order skills of reasoning and analysis. The activity calendar of the department broadly comprises an orientation program for the freshers, corporate interactions, and workshops on several contemporary topics, majorly for developing leadership attributes, soft skills, start-up ideation and funding, business innovation, and so on.
The department organizes an ‘Industrial colloquium’ to impart skills in situation-based decision-making, trading, and optimal utilization of given budgetary resources. The Magazine and Newsletter Committee of the department releases an e-newsletter every month. The committee has taken out several successful editions of the newsletter called the BEA-Beats. The content of the newsletter includes trending news of the month, a review of the events taking place in the department, a creative section, alumni connect, etc. The alumni of the department address and guide the students as per the need of the students regarding further education, career options, and real challenges encountered while working for the industry and the government.
