Himalayan Study Circle was established in the College in August 2022 with the aim of undertaking multi-disciplinary research on Himalayan ecology and culture. This Study Circle is affiliated to the Centre for Himalayan Studies, University of Delhi, a nodal centre for multi-disciplinary research in Himalayan history, geography, society, economy, polity, culture, traditional knowledge, bio-resources, environment, sustainable development and related fields. Popularly called HSC@MAC, the Study Circle works for sensitization of the college community to the Himalayan region as a vast pool of natural and cultural resources which has shaped the contours of the Indian sub-continent. Some of the activities being undertaken by the Circle include fortnightly discussion on Himalayas – its geomorphology, cultural landscapes, flora and fauna and habitats and cultures; screening of internationally acclaimed documentaries on ecology and culture; nature walks and visits to biodiversity parks, national parks and wildlife centuries; organisation of Himalayan festival at the college and university level and compilation of an anthology on Himalayan Culture.
The Study Circle was formally inaugurated on January 11, 2023 by Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo, Director, Centre for Himalayan Studies, University of Delhi. Prof Sunil K Choudhary, Chairman, Governing Body, Prof. Bijayalaxmi Nanda, Principal, Miranda House and Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Tiwari, Principal, Maharaja Agrasen College also graced the occasion. A Photo Exhibition depicting the flora and fauna of the Himalayan region was also displayed in the gallery adjoining the HSC@MAC centre, room no. 233.
The Study Circle comprises of faculty members and student volunteers who have been actively involved in various ecological campaigns within and outside the college for a very long time. This team is committed to taking forward the aims and objectives envisaged by the Centre for Himalayan Studies and hopes to make significant interventions in areas of Himalayan ecology and culture.
